Jones Window Systems

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Jones Window Systems are manufacturers and installers of double glazing and uPVC double glazed windows and doors. A wide range of designs and styles are offered and bespoke windows are our speciality.

Double glazing is not only about thermal insulation to keep your house warmer and draught-free – security is just as important. All our double-glazed windows are glazed at 28mm thickness, with high security glazing, reinforced with steel and high security locking system with shoot bolts. All UPVC has a 70mm profile. All doors, patio doors and conservatories also have emphasis on security, being reinforced with Hook/Mortice locks.

One of the weakest points in the energy efficiency of the average home is the window area. The single sheet glass in a standard window is a poor “thermal insulator”, and allows a great deal of heat to pass from warm spaces to cooler spaces – meaning, of course, that the house gets cold in winter and hot in summer!

Our A-Rated Double Glazing solves this problem by having two sheets of glass separated by a sealed air space between them. This provides thermal and sound insulation which greatly exceeds that of single glazing. The warmer inner pane minimises the incidence of condensation and prevents puddles forming on window ledges, which can stain woodwork or curtains, the need for window cleaning is therefore reduced. Down-draughts and cold zones around windows are also reduced meaning greater comfort around window.

What Does the Energy Efficient Window Ratings Label Tell You?

The BFRC Scheme is the UK’s national system for rating the energy efficiency of windows and is recognised within the Building Regulations as a method to show compliance for your replacement windows installation.

Window Energy Ratings use a consumer-friendly traffic-light style A-E ratings guide similar to that used on ‘white’ goods (such as fridges, freezers, washing machines etc…). This ratings label can be used by you to make more informed choices about the energy efficiency of the windows you are looking to purchase.

With carbon emissions high on the global agenda and the current high cost of fuel, we are all looking for ways to make our homes more energy efficient.

Each window rated by the BFRC has a unique label

This label will display the following information:

1. The rating level – A, B, C, etc…
2. The energy rating eg. -3kWh/(m²·K) in this example the product will lose 3 kilowatt hours per square metre per year.
3. The window U value eg. 1.4W/(m²·K)
4. The effective heat loss due to air penetration as L
eg. 0.01 W/(m²·K)
5. The solar heat gain eg. g=0.43

Simply put this will determine how well a product will perform the functions of:

* Helping you contain and conserve heat within your building in the winter

* Keep out the wind

* Resist condensation

* Contribute to improved sound insulation

So What are Energy Efficient Windows – Use Solar Gain to Benefit the Home

So exactly what are Energy Efficient Windows? They are windows that help to contain and conserve heat within the home keeping out wind and rain, resisting condensation and yet allowing natural “free” energy – the warmth of the sun – to heat the home. They can be made using any frame material – aluminium, PVC-U, steel or timber or even a combination of materials.

Energy Efficient Windows are easy to recognise – simply look for the BFRC Label.

A Rated Windows

Save money by selecting energy efficient windows which reduce your heating bills.
Take a closer lookEnergy Ratings
Window Energy Rated (WER) and what it means

The BFRC Window Energy Rating (WER) method includes all of the relevant factors in the energy efficiency of a window, as well as including the ‘loss factors’ such as U-value, it also includes the ‘gain factors’ such as the solar heat gain.

Informed decisions making for the homeowner
It provides consumers with clear identification of energy efficient products to enable them to make informed purchasing decisions. For windows, the BFRC Rating and the BFRC label provides a ‘better ruler’ to establish the total energy performance of a rated window.
Energy labels allow buyers to compare and select products based on the product’s specific energy performance rather than on manufacturers claimed values. Window Energy Rating (WER), identifies energy saved by installing WER rated window

Accredited WER windows work on the same principle as energy efficient labelling used on domestic products, like washing machines.
